Tooth Extraction 101

If you’ve ever had a tooth pulled, you know it’s not an experience you want to go through again. However, if you don’t do enough to take care of your oral health, you may find yourself in need of an extraction.

So to help you avoid that situation, let’s look at what may necessitate an extraction and how you can avoid those compromising oral health situations.

Severe cavities

If you get a cavity but don’t come visit Dr. Sohrab Saghezchi at Mill Valley Dental in Mill Valley, California, as soon as possible, the cavity can quickly spread to surrounding teeth and cause severe tooth decay – and even tooth death. Often, at this point, options such a dental bridges, implants, or root canals and fillings, aren’t going to fix the tooth, and it’ll need to be extracted.

Infection

Likewise, if you don’t take care of your oral health, it can lead to an infection in your tooth, or your gums. An abscess is the most common result of an infection, though gum disease is a close second. Both of those instances may require an extraction to rid your mouth of the infection and save your remaining teeth.

To keep the possibility of an extraction at bay, make sure to practice great oral health routines.
